Theatre / Opera House

The Theatre is among the oldest buildings in Duisburg that have survived the war. It was built in 1911 in the neoclassical style and has seats for 1,117 people. The Theatre houses the German Opera on the Rhine and the Duisburg Philharmonics.

The German Opera on the Rhine is a joint project of the towns of Düsseldorf and Duisburg. It is widely renowned for its classical performances and concerts.

The Duisburg Philharmonics were founded in 1877 by Hermann Brandt and today are among the most famous opera and concert orchestras in Germany. Up to the reopening of the Mercatorhalle in the CityPalais (probably in September 2016), the orchestra is playing in the Theater am Marientor (TAM).

Tickets can be ordered online. We are pleased to help you find out about the current programme.
